Wild Hearthstone Secret Guide

Wild Hearthstone Secret Guide

Welcome to the Wild Hearthstone Secret Guide! Knowing which Secret your opponent is likely to have in play can be game-winning in certain situations. Similarly, failing to play around the correct Secret can quickly swing the game in your opponent’s favor.

This guide provides a summary and visual guide of all Hearthstone Secrets available in the Wild format. The Secrets Play Rates and Trigger Checklist will help you identify the Secret your opponent has in play, and respond appropriately. Clicking a trigger condition will hide the associated Secrets, helping you work through all possibilities.

Hearthstone Secrets Overview

In Hearthstone, Secrets are played on the player’s turn, but the effect can only trigger on the opposing player’s turn. Secrets are a mechanic available to three Hearthstone classes: Hunter, Mage, and Paladin.

Each classes’ Secrets have unique mana costs (2, 3, and 1, respectively) to avoid giving away information about which Secret was played. Similarly, the color of the Secret (Green, Pink, and Yellow, respectively) is an indication of the class it belongs to. All classes’ Secrets have a specific set of trigger conditions associated with them, each of which is covered in this guide.

Hearthstone Secret Mechanic Nuances

  • Players cannot have more than one copy of the same Secret in play at any one time. A Secret in your hand that is already in active will not be playable until it is triggered. This is true of cards that put Secrets into play (such as Mad Scientist or Mysterious Challenger), as well.
  • The maximum number of Secrets you can have in play is five. With five Secrets in play, no more Secrets can be played one of the Secrets is triggered. This is true of cards that put Secrets into play (such as Mad Scientist or Mysterious Challenger), as well.
    • Quest cards take up a Secret slot.
  • Secrets trigger after a minion (and its Battlecry) resolves. For example, Twilight Drake played into Repentance will gain the health buff from the Battlecry, then have its health reduced to 1 from the Secret.
  • If a Secret is triggered but cannot resolve, it remains in play and unrevealed. For example, if your opponent has Noble Sacrifice in play with a full board, it will not trigger until a minion is clear and there is space on board.
  • Secrets created by Lorewalker Cho are revealed when played and can be revealed after play by hovering over the Secret icon.
  • Secrets that deal damage are affected by Spell Damage bonuses.
  • Multiple Secrets can be triggered by a single action. For example, attacking the opponent’s hero could activate Explosive Trap, Misdirection and Freezing Trap secrets active on that hero at the time.
  • When multiple Secrets are triggered by the same action, the effects will activate in the order in which they were played. For example, if Potion of Polymorph is played before Mirror Entity, Potion of Polymorph will trigger first. Mirror Entity will then copy the Sheep.
    • When played in the reverse order, Mirror Entity will copy the minion, then the opponent’s minion will be Polymorphed.
  • If a Secret removes the target for another Secret which was also triggered, the second Secret will not take effect. For example, if Freezing Trap removes the minion which would have been the target of Misdirection, Misdirection will not trigger since there is no longer a valid target.
    • This rule only applies for Secrets which a specific target. For example, Explosive Trap does not require a target. As a result, it will always activate once triggered, even if the original minion has been removed from play by Freezing Trap.
